Research
The Members of the GLA Conservatives produce one report a month on issues of interest to London that fall within the remit of the work of the Mayor of London. As the Senior Researcher for Crime and Policing you will be expected to produce at least one substantial report a year – most Senior Researchers produce two or three. Here are some examples of past reports:
66k frontline workers punched, kicked, spat on, and even murdered
- Over 400 attacks every week on doctors, nurses, cabbies and receptionists
- Wearable GPS ‘panic button’ technology would protect essential workers and slash the multi-million pound workplace violence bill
65,970 workers in the UK have been attacked whilst on duty in the last three years, working out at over 400 incidents every week.1
A new report “Risky Business: Protecting frontline workers from attack whilst on duty” has collected FOI data from hospital trusts, emergency services, the transport sector and Government departments.

700k crooks with multiple convictions burdening our courts – 100k in London
· Nationally, half of these criminals have more than 10 previous convictions
· ‘Mandatory training or education for first time prisoners will get people into jobs and out of criminality’
Courts in London are having to deal with tens of thousands of offenders who already have been convicted multiple times.
FOI figures show 97,039 offenders with two or more previous convictions were yet again brought before our courts in the last two years.¹
Over a third of these criminals (38,576) have 10 or more previous convictions, whilst 60,101 have been convicted at least 6 times.

Government should pull the plug on failed £20m Davies Commission
London needs a globally competitive hub airport. In ruling out the Thames Estuary plans, the Davies Commission has just ruled out the only remaining option that fits the bill. In reality it is the Commission itself that should be scrapped. Building a new runway at Gatwick will simply just mean a bigger Gatwick. A third runway at Heathrow would cause misery for millions of Londoners without solving the problem. The Davies Commission, with a budget of £20m, is heading down a blind alley, whilst wasting time and taxpayer cash. The Government must pull the plug and adopt the Mayor of London’s Estuary airport solution.
